Project description: My project is a segmented bowl, with a feature ring of 10 little houses in 2 different sizes. Each unique, using 12 different species of wood for a total of 176 pieces. This project took about 30 hours given all the small parts and grain orientations. Of course I won't say how many practice houses it took but I'm happy with it and enjoyed the process. I built this based on DVD's on Segmented Turning by Curt Theobald,I rented from you.

Project description: This is my first attempt at serious turning and my first ever pen and pencil. I got a lot of help from the "Basic Penturning" DVD.

Project description: This is a woodturned hollow form turned to a thickness of 1/16"th throughout. The base is solid walnut and attached via a tennon to anchor the piece. Woods used are walnut for the base and finial,and spalted maple for the body. It has been airbrushed with a tinted shellac and finished with poly. Total size is 19.25 inches tall and 4.75 inches wide.

Project description: Made form beautiful Curly Maple and Popular. This reproduction piece sports reproduction hardware pulls and even clout nails. It has a secret hidden tray in the back behind the solid popular backboards. All hand cut dovetails and the drawers have solid bottoms also made from poplar. It has a clear coat finish of lacquer and the drawer insides are finish with shallac. It took over 200 hours to complete. This was the first piece of furniture I made.

Project description: This is a big (14" across) bowl turned from a single piece of Mulberry. It was turned from the log exactly as it came from the chainsaw.

Project description: I just started my journey into hand tools woodworking just a year ago, and this is my second "real" project. It was made entirely with hand tools, and I learned a tremendous amount during the process! The stool was made from wood from an Ikea bed pallet. The top is joined with dovetails, and the support brace is joined with double wedged tenons. A few coats of an oil/varnish blend and there you have it! Tools used: ryoba saw, coping saw, Stanley #4 plane, spokeshave, cabinet scraper, and chisels.

Project description: The toy box is frame and panel construction. The frames are made from red oak with mortis and tennon joints. All of the mortis and tennon joints are pinned thru the tennons with walnut dowels. The feild panels are made from red oak veneer plywood. The conners are mitered with walnut keys thru the miter. The finish is Bartley Red Mahogany Gel Stain with four coats of polyurethane for the top coat.

Project description: This is a chest that I built for my oldrst daughter several years ago. She and her sister used it hard as their toy chest through the years. It was built out of oak pallet wood that I took apart. At the time money was tight. It was jointed togather with wood dowels and glue (no nails to stick little fingers) Then carved and woodburned, painted and sealed.A year or so ago while cleaning out the shed I came across its battered remains. I was going to get rid of it as both the girls are now grown and out of the house. But my oldest begged me not to toss it, but rather to repair it for her so she could pass it on to her children if she ever has any. And thus a bunch of old junk wood was returned to a new life. And the toy chest turned hope chest lives on.

Project description: This bookstand is a 12-inch cube when closed, with a top and sides that open at adjustable angles to hold up to 5 books or documents. It is particularly useful for consulting and coordinating multiple resources while doing research. This stand is constructed of red oak, and it revolves on ball bearings. It is equally attractive open or closed. The project was inspired by the bookstand on display at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. My bookstands in various woods (red oak, white oak, and cherry) are currently in use by an attorney, an author and a technology consultant.

Project description: Inspired by a picture of an African maiden walking a dirt road carrying an unidentified container on her head. Overall height is 44 inches, base is 4 inches, maiden and container are 40 inches tall. Base is Indiana Sandstone, maiden is Indiana Walnut, container is maple.

Project description: This box was turned from 8/4 hard fiddle back maple from North Carolina and North Carolina Apple. The box is 5" in diameter and stands 7 1/4" tall. The finial lid is threaded to the body with a 3 1/8" X 16 thread. The threaded apple insert in the body is further highlighted with a 1/10" wide red inlace inlay. A second inlace inlay outlines the finial. The box in finished in Mylands cellulose sealer and friction polish. The walls of the box body are 3/16" thick and the complete box weighs 5.6 ounces.
